Thanks Arthur. It's really surprising how many extinct volcanos there are in Australia. There's hundreds all over the place and some in strange places.

It's Tower Hill right near Koroit. Halfway between Warnambool and Pt Fairy. Not far from Killarney beach.

Think you were standing about 700M from my friends place Arthur. Usually visit them once a year, last time I was there was at the beginning of this year.

Great spot for walking, birdding, oh and snakes

If you remember the photo I posted a while back of the Tiger Snake at the beginning of the year it was at this place down where all the water has evaporated. Water levels look quite low aswell as it's usually has quite a bit there. Wonder if it had any waders during spring.

Arthur during spring you can get some fantastic moody sunsets over Tower Hill. The only problem that I had capturing them was that I didn't have an ND Grad. So all my shots came out exposed either for sky or ground (when I was trying with film).


Btw Arthur, there is normally never much water in there

Hi Darly,

In the tourist brochure, the lake was water filled and it looked beautiful. I was at Hall Gaps and Lake Londsydale is only half filled ... really sad.

I will need to buy ND filter. Most of my pano of Gampians did not turn out the way I had wanted.

I expect the brochure was taken quite some time ago. My friends have been local to Koroit for some 20 odd years. They've said over the past 5years that it's been fairly empty, and everytime I've been there which is during autumn or spring it has been fairly empty. However I'd say this is the emptiest it has looked. When I was there in April this year it had water in it and that was at the tail end of summer. There might be other reasons for it being empty. Perhaps they deliberately drained it to do some work there or something.
