Whipped down to Luggage Point to grab a few shots of the Diamond Princess for a friend today.

This is a stitched pano of 8 portrait images taken with Nikkor 200. Used a tripod too

Image

The original sized picture is here but be warned it is still 900k with maximum compression but you can see the detail in the lifeboats doorways etc. Quite interesting I thought.

Amazing engineering, and to think this city floats on water

Hmmm, not many lifeboats when you consider how many people must be on the thing...

Wow, nice pic. That would make a good print.
How big's the file with no compression? Must be huge!

Thanks folks.

Skippy, it came in at 5.5mb and measures 295cm x 95cm. Would make a nice big print :D

Thought it'd be bigger than that. Could easily see it as a 50" or 60" pano print. Wouldn't want to pay for the frame though. :(

Yeah Mark the thing was anchored off Yorkey's Knob beach in Cairns, too big to go into harbour, and was ferrying 1 -2 thousand people over to the harbour for a quick visit in cairns. It's ginormous. :) Nice image. How are you finding the d200? Have you got the battery grip yet? I'm really hanging out for mine. :)
cheers

To quote Billy Connolly:

"Ocean cruising is like being in a 5 star prison with the added chance of drowning"

Nice shot, great stitching, I still would hate to be stuck on one of those things.

That is a huge boat. Just imagine the nightmare it would be organising victuals on it.

THe pano treatment works really well for this image, but i'm noticing a slight curve in the boat, or is that just my eyes? :)

Thanks Folks.

Steve, By way of comparison, below is a shot cropped to similar but almost full width taken on full zoom with the Nikkor 18-70

1/800 @ f/8

I think there is a difference. The rear of the ship seems bigger in the pano. :D

:)

It looks bent in that pic too, so it must be an optical illusion with my eyes. I need to get some new ones.
