Next to sky (6 images)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I love the subject matter and have been planning to spend some time shooting details of power poles myself. I didn't have a b/w high contrast theme in mind, though.

I kind of like all of these shots, my pick would be the last one. The first one looks very interesting, too, almost like shot for a Mary Poppins film poster...

the first one is a beauty but the others don't work for me.

perhaps its because of the variety of shapes, the "border" on the right or just because its just black and white with nothing in between.
Not sure if the power line makes or mucks up the pic but either way its a great, starkly simple image.

Guys, thanks for your comments. I agree that subject is aquite specific and really depends on taste and preferences.

Big Red, reason for borders is that those are samples from my web. Whole series can be found here:

I really like the second shot. The bird silhouette contrasts against all the man-made, wirey stuff. I'm not sure if that's the statement that you were trying to make, but it stood out to me! :wink:

Great series. I love the concept. I cn see I'm going to be stepping in dog doo more often as I scan the rooftops from now on...

Kinetic, actually I dont interpret this shot that way. However I find that this series has a very, very different meanings for different people and generate quite different responses. Seems to have a lot of posible ways of reception.

Manta, that will mean you are really lucky man, either to make something such imposible or to get great shot :D I look forward to see your shots :)

what i meant by border was the outline of the building on the right which creates a sort of border ...
its a great pic 8)

cool reminds me of uk design outfit Tomato's work
very urban cool and minimalist
this sortof photography of mundane subjects appeals tome because the viewer is forced to look deeper to find basic principles in composition and appreciate it, i like your skilled eye.

is this taken overseas from your recent trip?

Thanks Wendellt for your comment. Yes, all six images where taken in Europe or to be more specific in Poland. I knew I will be able to update this series very easy. It is much easier to find this subject there then in Sydney.

intersting style. For me it is number one, but I would not use the black boader (but I understand that this is part of a series)
The thing I love about this forum is that it makes you think about photos that you would never take. THANKS.
