Northern beaches meet

First up, these have nothing to do with the northern beaches, altho they were taken during the meet.

Nightshot, 30 sec exposure in apparent pitch black - the viewfinder looked no different with the lens cap on or off.


This one flower stood out to me the most:

Saw you take that flower shot, and considering the light, you did a great job! The 30 second exposure is really interesting, both shots are definitely unique amongst us photographers.

Cheers Wendell, yes Leigh and I went outside attracted to the music from the party down the street... most of my moon and star shots turned out like crap (wait for Leigh to post his with the 45/P), and in fact what you see is perhaps the only decent shot I got at night. The trees were illuminated by the house lights left on.

The flower was shot without flash, and possibly a bit shorter than 30 seconds too Chris. As I've found the D70's sensor has trouble with properly exposing reds, violets and sometimes yellow, the flower was taken with -0.7EV dialed in.

And this one of Leigh, I thought the lighting was so good it even made Leigh look beautiful.

I think there's something wrong with my kit lens. The background is all blurry. Maybe I have to buy a Canon L.

An interesting group of shots. The first one has a really eerie quality to it and, as already said, the flower pic is great. I also think the shot of Leigh is a really good one - that early morning light gives a lovely soft glow. Next time I suggest (a) you get a better looking model and (b) you make sure they don't look that tired.

Nice one of the rock as foreground interest and it's thoughtful placement in the bottom left, the lighting ain't gorgeous but framing is well thought out observing the guidlines of asymetrical composition.

On the other hand the lighting on Leigh is gorgeous, we both agree 100% if the light is right shoot, no matter what the subject

Chi - that last sunrise pic is a really good shot. You've got near perfect exposure - the sun is present, but not majorly blown and there is that wonderful golden reflection from the water. Thanks for sharing this one.

Slow sync flash (5 sec exposure)


Using the grids in the viewfinder to chop the image strictly into thirds - the pool in the bottom third, the sea - middle, and the sky on top. (I don't really like it personally)
