I took a trip down to Langwarrin Flora and Fauna reserve in Melbourne hoping to find orchids. Instead I got some smart guys wander past telling me to keep a look out for the gold fish. Nice one. I was on my way back to the car park and put my bag down to pack the camera up and happened to look up at a tree. That was when I noticed the butterflies. Quite a few of them too. So it was a worthwhile trip after all. All pics taken with the Sigma 180 macro except the Spotted Jezebel where I was first using the 80-400VR.

Nicole

The 2 shots of the Imperial Jezebel are just exquisite. Sharp as a tack, beautifully framed and lovely flowering natives to compliment the colour of the butterfly.

Pics to be indeed proud of.

Cheers

Terrific images Nicole. I particularly like the third in the series. The perspective and composition really highlight well the wing structures and colour pattern. I also like the simple elegance of the image and lovely OOF backgound. Good sharpness and colour in all :)
cheers

Really nice shots!!

I had planned a trip out to the Langy reserve today.... but with the car troubles lately I couldn't make it.

Shame.

Well done on the pics. I've only ever looked for birds out there.... might have to take my 180 macro one day!!

Shame about your car. If you do get a chance to go it was the gum tree above the big rock just in from the car park.

Nicole,
Once again, your contribution of your new series of photos make this forum rocks with all the nice composure, great captures, lovely colours.

They should be selected, printed and hanged.

Nicole,

Great series - I love photographing butterflies. Last two really do it for me in terms of comp, colour and subjects.

Canon 20D and a bunch of lovely L glass and a 580EX. Benro tripod. Manfrotto monopod. Lowepro and Crumpler bags. And a pair of Sigma teleconverters, and some Kenko tubes.

Great shots, as usual Nicole. I, too, loved them all. Gorgeous colours on the Jezebels.

Thanks. :) Got a couple more butterfly pics down at Wilsons Promontory.

Steve, some were just natural light and I used fill flash with the SB800 on the Imperial Jezebel pics.

Hi Nicole,

Very nice catch. Finding such butterflies are a rarity.

Love colours. Flash was used right cos I think it is a bit too reflective esp for #2 and #3.
