Something fisheye! (D/U Warning)

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Yes more pics taken at Phuoc Hue Temple at Lunar New Year . These ones were all taken with the Nikkor 10.5/2.8 DX fisheye lens. Especially for Craig :wink:

Defish (of varying degrees) has been done using DxO Optics Pro. While not an everyday use lens, this is a fun lens to play with. To see a larger version, click a pic.

Thanks Peter! Hehe, it was well worth the wait, I can't wait to have a play with one of these lens... but on second thoughts the lust will only increase so maybe I should.

I love the first one and the large gong/bell, I've been wondering if the fisheye would make interesting fireworks shots, but from what I could tell you had the 24-120VR on for the fireworks. (is that right?)

Craig - #1 and #4 are the standouts for me. Interestingly one makes heavy use of the distortion, the other not so.

You are correct. All my fireworks pics were taken with 24-120 VR. Too much happening to change lenses since the lion dance and fireworks were pretty much straight on top of each other.

Peter, great symmetrical composition and just the right amount of perspective correction - but the indoors lighting seems to be a bit flat and unexciting. Don't get me wrong - they're perfectly exposed, but being so 'perfect', the lighting appears a bit bland IMO.

Mal - Thanks - Hadn't thought about it, but you're right about #1. And I love this lens too :D
Nghia - Thanks. I've been to the temple a few times, but never been able to get wide enough to do the bell justice until now
Chi - Thanks. The indoor shots were very challenging. As you'd know, all but the top (seventh) level of the building have the statues directly in front of a window and the light from there is very bright during the day. These were mostly taken with a flash to try and balance the light and flash has a tendency to dull down the pics. Something I then worked on getting back in PP.

I'm with Stubbsy on this one, first one and last one works great with the FE. The other pics for some reason make me sick...not because they're poor quality or anything, just the distortion doesn't sit right :)
