Eastern Pygmy Possum (2nd attempt)

Hi all,

A week or so ago I posted this image (my third posting in critique/review section). Unfortunately due to a web-space error, image was deleted and I had to delete post as well through one of the moderators. Well, here it is again.

This is an Eastern Pygmy Possum in a Qld Tree Waratah.

Critique and comments welcome

Cheers

Michael
This is an excellent photo in every respect
Did you take the photo at night?
And do you have any tips for attracting pigmy possums to one's garden?
Cheers

Thanks for the positive feedback so far.

Graham: Yes, this shot was taken at night and they are found mainly in wetter rainforests such as Lamington National Park (quite rare).

Michael - I know that I've seen this shot before and commented on it, but for the record, it is beautifully lit and composed :) Lucky you for having the opportunity it shoot such a lovely little bugger.

Here are replies to a couple of questions:

Willy Wombat - they are the size of a tennis ball (roughly) when curled up.

Simon (Manta) - In regards to your question as to whether this was taken in the wild or captivity: Eastern Pygmy Possums are very rare, nocturnal and live high in the rainforest canopy. Getting shots of them in the wild would be impossible. This particular individual was photographed at a private breeder's place who is registered with Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service. Enclosure is quite large and natural and it took most of the night to get a decent shot (little bugger played up most of the night!)

Thanks again to all who posted responses

Cheers

Sounds like it's almost as hard to get a shot of the captive animals as it is with the wild ones! Regardless, it's a great shot and really shows off the animal in a wonderful pose with a terrific colour balance. I'm sure there are very few people who get to see these little guys let alone take such sharp and expressive photos of them.

Well done!!
