Petrol tanker roll-over Boondall

At approximately 0920 crews were turned out to a petrol tanker roll-over
on Bicentenial Rd at Boondall. The driver of the vehicle suffered head
injuries and was transported by the QAS to the Royal Brisbane Hosptial.
The truck was carrying 30000L of unleaded petrol, and was leaking the
fuel at a rate of 2L per minute. The QPS invoked the Public Safety
Preservation Act and a 2klm area was declared within the emergency
situation area. A dam was erected immediately to ensure that no petrol
would leak into the near by wet lands. QFRS crews initially on scene
were 521a (Taigum Pumper), 514a (Sandgate Pumper), 503a (Annerley
Pumper), 503w (Foam Tender), 850a (Hazmat and BA), and BA3 (Area
Director). Throughout the day crews were relieved by 516a (Chermside
Pumper) and 514a (Sandgate Pumper). 516k (Chermside ET) was also on
site with night crew. 12 QPS crews and 1 QAS crew were on scene for
traffic management and safety. At approximately 1945hrs, the truck was
righted and the remainder of the cleanup was resumed.

i can tell you one thing... the chap drilling into the tank ... couldn't pay me enough $$$ to do that... i was nervous enough just being near the thing while he was getting stuck into it.

yeh.. could have been worse... it was a long long long day... 0920 out there... 2015 left...

i can tell you one thing... the chap drilling into the tank ... couldn't pay me enough $$$ to do that... i was nervous enough just being near the thing while he was getting stuck into it.

While it isn't ideal, 'hot tapping' is done all the time on oil refineries.

I too was at a truck incident last night, got a call about 11 30 to a truck well involved on the toowoomba range I was on the other side of town at the time so I only managed to get them cooling it down.

I did however beat the other photographer and my pics will be in the paper tomorrow.

I went to a tanker fire once, head on between semi and taxi. Prime mover caught fire, and the taxi driver was mushed up and trapped, but alive. Taxi came to rest 10 metres from burning truck. Very nerve wracking. Saved the cabbie, but only afterwards I thought "that was the silliest thing I've ever done". Took the firies 10 minutes to get there, made for a long ten minutes
