Thanks Tim, i had another pic of him with more sparks with about a 3ft trail behind him, so was ok for a very dull day. Used the 300 plus a 1.4tc for most of the day.

John

Love all the shots. How do you get the clarity and dof just right on such a dull day.

I did some shots at Queensland Raceway a few months back with the 70 - 300 on a dull day at 1600iso. I was dissapointed as they were dull and still grainy. I also had problems with the focusing on cf, but i was still learning how to use the camera, still am now. Please tell me you secrets.

Well was shooting at 420m, in shutter mode and about 1/640, and ISO200, and EV up to +3.0 with some shots. It is ok to use a higher shutter when bikes are coming head on to you and no more than 400 when paning although i use 320 and i find when i shoot on the D2X i have to shoot with EV +0.3 in jpg.
Here is a crop of that other pic ok maybe not quiet 3ft but looked ok.

Sparklers in the knee sliders give a great effect. Next time i get a chance to go and shoot some bikes i will try your suggestions. I tend to be riding more often than spectating.

Thanks

Great series of shots John, as always. Are you going to the Clipsall 500? If you are, I'd love to see you take some shots of the Formula Ford action. There's a few of our instructors competing there and I'm yet to see motorsport shots better than you regularly produce.

Hi John, terrific images once again. Really like #1 the sense of speed you achieved really works. #2 is also great for same reasons with added bonus of sparks
cheers

Thanks All, Yes it was good to have the 300m attached to the camera for most of the day for a change. I dont always use it, pending on what i am shooting and well looks like we might be going to Clipsal 500 as the Boss she who must be obeyed is a car lover, hates bikes has said she want's to go as well to keep an eye on Fozzie and Big V so they dont get me into to much trouble.

So i tried some different shots this ride day for a change as there was a few pulling wheelies so made the most of it.
