Tokina 1224 images (First try)

Oh the lust! Finally bought Tokina 12-24. CPL used in all images. CC please.

Just trying to display it from webshots gallery. Please bear with me if something is not right or the image cant be seen.

pano at Southbank, 3 photos handheld stitched in Autostitch.

Terrific stuff...

#1, Try and add a bit more room above and below your subjects when framing the original images, as you may lose some top and bottom when cropping the stitched result to remove any curved image edges due to the merging stuff...

#2 That's an interesting subject for a pano, very challenging... You've done well to stitch it... The overlap would be interesting to place due to the flags which I assume would have been moving...

#3 Nicely exposed and a really good angle, but the crop off the top clips the tops off, was this one's edges a bit curved and you lost the edges due to final cropping?

#4 Interesting angle and not sure why but doesn't work for me...

Oh, just copy&paste the URLs and I get the images OK, dunno if that's a help...

The 12-24 opens up a whole new world huh....

Lovely stuff, congrats on your new lens its already captured some great shots.

With the first one I would of tried to get a bit more of the city in at the top.

Good shots. I, too, think it would be better if the was more of the Southbank buildings in the first shot.

Andrew you're spot on there, lost the top of buildings and top bit of art centre tower when straightened the frame. Another reason could not get much at the top, as camera had to be quite sqare to avoid perspective distortion.

#2 is not a pano.

#4 was just spur of moment. Just it looked good to the eye.

All in all very happy with the lens.

Something strange. There is a workaround...right click on the image icon, select view image, it will show you the image in SAME browser window. Just hit back button to go back and now image can be seen.

It is a very good lens. I did a lot of search here and on various forums. Only 2 things were of slight concern
1. Chromatic aberration
2. Quality variance from batch to batch.

For 1. I found out that depending on the angle of light on subject and contrast boundry (leaves on a white sky background or border of black to white etc) it can vary from none to slightly visible when you blow the image above 100 percent, it can be easily corrected though.

For 2. you have to try the lens first. I bought it in MEL and the salesman did let me try it for about an hour (I kept 2 of my lenses as ransom )
The price was then negotiated for that particular piece (in the end it was about 8% more than birddog. You just cant get birddog's prices anywhere)


As for the sharpness, color and contrast I have not found any prob so far. I have included the link for my webshots album where you can see the bigger pictures.

Thanks for taking the time to respond, like you I have been doing a lot of "research" on the 12-24. I was budgeting for the Nikon 12-24Dx but after reading other ppls comments and seeing the odd example decided the price difference could be better spent elsewhere (another "gold" box?)

Did not know there were build quality issues from batch to batch, guess it will be the luck of the draw for me, as up here the nearest DSLR store is 2K K's away or the internet.

Enjoyed your pics very much, particularly the church/cathedral. My only CC is that when I looked at the blue sky I immediately thought of a CP Filter. Could be my monitor, but it seemed a bit "washed out". Or perhaps I am getting used to the industrial strength sunlight we get here
