What's With Me and the Sky?

Postby vort on Tue Mar 21, 2006 5:42 pm

I dunno what it is, but I find pictures of even just the sky and clouds fascinating.

Heres one I took yesterday avo.

A little color editing to give it a deeper blue, but the sky was almost as beautiful as that. It was amazing!

Image

A random pic I took the other day. Nothing special.

Vort - the first image is lovely and I like what you've done with it. Very 'arty'feel to it. Well done. The 2nd one - hmmm...well, it's a mic?! :D

Vort, I really like the first one, brilliant sky and the silhouette is lovely.

I don't mind the shot of the Mic either, the lighting is a bit hot in the bottom edge, but other then that it's quiet nice.

Thanks guys.

Yeah it is just a mic :) I just thought I'd put up anyway! I was playing around with my awesome studio (read: cardboard and lamp) and the macro feature on my now sold 28-85 lense so yeah :)

Geoff,

Not just a mic, but an SM58 or similar, probably.

Skies are nice to watch .. laying on your back on a sunny afternoon. Why should a photo of the sky not be as pleasant.

Yep, looks very SM-58 to me, or possibly one of the thousand copies thereof (hey, if the design works.. why not!!).

I actually like the microphone pic a bit more - it's more deliberate, and I love the lighting you've used there. I must say though, it's disappointing that you didn't use an authentic pub gig model, with dents and beer-stains ;)

A photo of the SM-57 next!!! (Actually my fave Shure mic.. so versatile :) )

Authentic? :P

That's my Old Mans mic. He's been gigging for 30 years. I don't know when that mic was released, but he's probly had that mic since then up untill last year when he replaced it with something else. I use that for my bands jam sessions now. Trust me, it has dents and scratches :P I'll take a pic.

I ask .... how can the lighting in the bottom edge be 'a bit hot' when it is in shadow and being filled by the background........ judging by the shadow it was very much a top light

EDIT: both are good shots......

Um, ok badly explained, the hot white highlights, at the bottom edge detract from the shot for me. (The white be blow the shadow).

the natural background........ this shot in my option is very well lit.......it is hard to light a shinny object and make it look natural, this is a very good example of a well lit shinny object on a plain background.......

EDIE: in this case, most of the shine of the subject happens to be small dints and scratches
Cheers ....bp....

An SM58 (or 57), they take a lot more pounding than the RE20's LOL... Strewth that brings back memories... 8)

Anyway, love the sky, great texture and interest, thought the mic shot was a good product shot... Wonder if a dark background/base with a soft light might suit a pub mic?

Now THAT'S more like it! :) Should be hanging from its cord from a mic stand, with beer dripping off it though... ;)

Oh the dilemma!
The blue sky or the SM58.

The sky has it! Nice work

Hard one to pick. Sky or SM58??

Love the sky, gorgeous colours and formations, but love the ol' mic too. It will take about 30 years of gigging from me for mine to look like that. At the moment she's only a bub at about 5 years old and no dints or beer at all! (Maybe just some lippy instead! ;) )

Great photos, I have tried with my SM58, but no where near as good!

Seeing as you all love the Mic so much, I might just have to take it to my old mans next gig and stick it on the stand and take some pics :)
