I like the last one alot! nice warm colours for a silhouette though the tree thing behind him is a little distracting still good though.

also it's not like there aren't enough ducks around the place.

 Could say the same thing about humans.

But hey, I don't want to get into an argument about animal rights on here :)

Nice images mate. Really like the first one. Nice use of the sun behind the flag, nice intense colours and contrast. Did you use a CPL??

The last one is also nice, but I would be tempted to crop out the bush behind the shooter and make it look like he's sneaking into the image from the left hand side. But thats just my idea :D

I agree with Wendel, these images are quality photo-journo!

Cheers Raskill, No CPL used, just -1.3 fill flash used to light the front of the protesters, the background exposed for sky/water etc

That first shot is very PJ. Symbolic flag, and including Laurie in the image getting his feet wet...
Nice work on all of these!

Don't go there Michael, or this could quickly devolve into a heated political argument rather than a discussion of the photography. I'm resisting the temptation!

I can't really tell because this monitor absolutely sucks to be viewing things on (it's quite dark), but is that a Pink Eared Duck that the girl is holding? If so, Nicole will be quite upset.

I instantly went for the last one, love the tones and it reminds me of one of my own favourite shots (replace the gun with a fishing rod). :)

But I also really like the first one, great PJ style to it.

Great photos. I like all of them as they tell the story. Good to see the comments are remaining on topic.

Great series Barrie. My fave is #2. The emotion captured tells the story of the plight of the ducks and "protesters". You can feel her agony.

I also checked you flickr stream and the whole series is fantastic. Were you an *embedded* journalist :D ?

G'day Pharmer,

Every so often I come across a series of shots that just flaw me, and these three shots are it. I absolutely love everything about them.

No.1 - Laurie (brilliant campaigner against duck shooting for many, many years) in the water with blood on his t-shirt, with a fellow campaigner

No.2 - Volunteer showing such emotion when holding a shot duck

No.3 - Shooter waiting quietly for a cheap thrill (i.e. blasting a beautiful bird out of the sky) while sillohuetted against the background.

Great composition, emotion, colour.

You have got to get these published, mate, because they are stunning.

Cheers

I think its a Freckled duck - a protected and endangered species - I could be wrong however

A great series of very powerful images there. They seem to show the emotion of the moment very well...

As mentioned, excellent PJ stuff, good work...
