Steamfest 2006This weekend just gone was the 21st Hunter Valley Steamfest. Radar, Birdy & myself attended and these are the pick of my shots. More can be found here. All shots were taken with the 24-120VR lens.

I've been told: it was respray to its original livery for ready to deploy to Iran ![]() Yes, its colour same as the RAAF Hornet or the Manoora. Birddog114

I have to say that I was disappointed the 3801 was now grey. While it may not have been its original colour, the green with yellow stripe looked so much better in a photo.

I have to say, the streamlined 38 class is probably my favourite locomotive ever. The grey whilst authentic does look pretty boring. The green/yellow stripes livery looked sensational, and the black/red stripes livery also looks great.
Do you have any more of 3801 or 3830 Peter? I love these engines and was going to get up early and shoot them at Central station, but I had a bastard of a hangover on Saturday for some reason. ![]() Last edited by MCWB on Mon Apr 24, 2006 10:02 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Peter whilst I am not by any means an avid train enthusiast I do appreciate elements of thoughtful composition use of colour and framing that create a pleasing visual image.
#1 is well well framed but the slate grey of the loco does nothing to aide to the impact of the image. I also don't know itf you had noticed Peter but someone empaled the loco with a telegraph pole ![]() #2 and #3 both employ good use of vibrant colours but could benefit by some gentle cropping to get rid of visual distractions. In #2 a slice down the left side to remove the ugly fencing and store area in the lower left corner and remove a bit of left hand edge extra space would make for a tighter composition. I also love the white smoke plume against that vibrant blue sky (haven't seen such clear blue sky in weeks up here ![]() In #3 a slither, this time, down the right edge to remove the steel rail in front of loco #4 doesn't really attract me all that much apart from the glorious golden hue pervading the image #1 for overall compositional quality, #2 for its visual impact and #3 for use of colour and the last for overall tonal appeal. Overall lovely set of images. For me you would be damn working hard on the day to beat that bullet train image in your first set Peter, bloody marvellous capture and definitely to be framed ![]() cheers marco
Marco - you don't want much do you ![]() ![]() And a new even more "fixed" version that I agree looks better: ![]() Peter

Trent Sure do. A second Steamfest post is here and the entire gallery is here. I'd suggest the reason for the hangover may have had something to do with what you drank the night before ![]() Why don't you come to Maitland for Steamfest next year? Peter

MCWB, It's a great event with number of vintage trains and cars + other steam engines in the old days were displayed! I hope you can make it next year, but I doubt it very much due to your new tasks and perhaps new added face in the family ![]() Birddog114

LOL Birdy.

Trent - what's the problem between Railcorp & 3801 Ltd? Does it affect the other trains too?
