Yet another "ferry candid"

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Yet another "ferry candid"

An excellent "source" of images is the Manly ferry. I took this snap of a young Indian (?) woman, possibly a tourist, with the backdrop of you know what.

Taken with my 135 f/2

I always feel like a bit of a stalker if I start taking photos of people I don't know :) So I don't often do it...

Nice moment, well captured as always!

Much PP work done? I always find that I struggle to expose correctly against a bright sky.

i'd have to agree with you on that, quite out of my comfort zone to be taking photos of people i don't know.... this was made worse when i was in kings cross last weekend, every... um.... lady of the night... was telling me not to take photos of her.... very discouraging

Thanks. No PP work at all. Not even any sharpening. I use evaluative metering on my 5D and usually have no probs with exposure. I do shoot RAW which gives me more leeway when converting in ACR.

I would not be game enough ('scuse the pun!!) to take snaps of anyone in Kings Cross :D As long as I don't demean the subject, I see no reason not to take their photograph. If they object at the time, of course I back off. In my four years of taking candid shots, only on one occasion has someone objected and oddly enough, she was a street busker. Its always a tetchy subject especially photographing images of Muslim females in their hijab. But often I have been contacted by Muslim folk who view my PBase site who state that they love my work and express my thanks for showing images of Muslim woman with such sensitivity.

Cheers

It's not one of my favoured candids from you, but it's still lovely work, did you use the Zigview for this shot ?

No, it was not really necessary. If you sit on the back of the Manly ferry as I do every afternoon, there are at least 10 people taking snaps of the Harbour.

Arh, she reveals another of her trade secrets! Excellent idea blending in with other photographers, particularly tourist ones as no one seems to pay them much attention ;)
