New camera and glass
This canon person finally bit the bullet and purchased a 30D + the 24-70 2.8L.
I've been told that once you've used L series glass you don't go back. I've been pretty excited so far from my limited use - the colours, the detail, the depth of field - I'm loving it! I've decided to dump Av and Tv and only shoot in manual - went for a walk today around the harbour and here is one taken at 2.8. I can't wait to have more of a play!

Mitchell. A great capture from your new toy. Why the decision to switch to manual. IMHO using Aperture priority still gives you lots of control, but makes the most of the smarts in the camera too.

Peter - don't know a lot about the internals of the camera, but my understanding was that Av will simply fix the shutter speed for your aperture at the level of exposure on the light meter you choose. I have found this generally is great. However it seems to stumble when there is lots of contrast in the scene - although I can adjust for this by adjusting the metering mode depending on how much of the scene I want to meter. Changing metering beomes tedious, and I'm finding that M means I'm not tied to the exposure as determined by one metering mode. It also makes me think a lot more about exactly how I want all areas of the photo to be exposed. It was much slower to begin with, (and I am still missing shots as I learn), but my brain is definitely learning what combinations work for different light conditions. Still an experiment in evolution...

firstly the 28-70 f2.8 lens is choice everyone at Tito Media my agency uses this lens it's versatile moslty for press work and model portraiture work te image too is lovely nice dof asymetrical composition and model looking away with hair in the air elements which i like in fashionable photography face is slightly dark but i can see the artistic merit all the way so no issue there for me also glad to see you using manual, master that and everything else falls into place

Wendell suggested the idea of shooting only in manual at my first mini meet at Birddogs - I was initially sceptical - but am quickly becoming a convert. Initially hard work, but worth the effort.

nice setup and lens, you chose well. Maybe could have used a bit of fill flash to bring out the details in the face. Do you have a flash for your 30D...?? Marty What does that button do....??
