love the action shots Peter. I think the first one can be cropped a bit tighter to emphasise the action a bit more.

Come follow the rabbit hole...
Great shots Peter. I like the 4th best, that boat is almost exploding with power.
Maybe one day they'll get back to Hobart ![]() Cheers John D3, D300, 14-24/2.8, 24-70/2.8, 85/1.4, 80-400VR, 18-200VR, 105/2.8 VR macro, Sigma 150/2.8 macro

I'm not sure what it is about the first two - they are fine captures, but they don't really have a strong impact. For me they display the boat and context, but don't actually give a feel for the situation.
However I think that 3 and 4 do! I love the third - the ?captain ?driver leaning forward adds to the sense of speed and the boat being urged faster - great shot ![]() I also like fourth - the close up gives a great feel for the huge spray.
Thank you all for your comments. Taking these shots presented a number of challenges - getting the entire boat and wake in frame, getting the %#%$@ thing in focus, dealing with the light (it was mid afternoon & the sun was high in the sky) and, finally, getting a good feel of action in the shot. Using a CP on the lens and getting on top of the panning process helped a lot as did the lens 70-200 VR lens - next time I hope to do better
![]() Wayne - I'll try a tighter crop, thanks Andrew - tell me about it. As it is I've actually added a bit of bow into the image that wasn't in the shot ![]() Mitchell - trouble is working out what gives that sense of speed. I've been experimenting with tighter cropping and in some cases that seems to have worked. Mark - 3rd shot is the best of these I got, but I have a few others on my SmugMug site where the other boat is just disappearing off the LHS. Peter
