Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

live at the basement...

Hello all,
I took some photos of my friends band "crash symphony" who played live at "the basement". A very good gig, and they did a live recording which will be out in the next month. Im also doing a revamp of their website which will hopefully be live end of the month - http://www.crashsymphony.com <- existing site.

I took all the photos with an F100, 3200iso Kodak TMZ film, and my trusty 50mm f/1.8.

I only shot off one roll, and did it more to experiment. They were glad I did, the "official" photographer's results (over 300+ digital files) were not as good (apparently).

#4 is my favourite, I was very impressed at the low grain of such a high speed film!

Love to hear your thoughts...
Images were scanned with my Epson 4990 photo scanner.

I am also very impressed with the low grain, however the images to me are a little dark and busy. The second image is probly my pick of the lot, you did well considering it was with film.
Are we there yet?

Jono,

As a digital shooter of a few years now (and ex-fim shooter), I have to be honest. I said to myself, yikes, film shooter in club setting = no chimping !

Ah how lazy I have become. Actually I was thinking of picking up an F5 and re-visiting some film days but purely for leisure :)

I like the look, even PS doesnt quite give the same B/W look as real emulsion. I'd preferred if you got in closer and "grabbed" your subject more - these are a little stand offish. I like an in-your-face style but thats just a style I like. If they tell you to eff off, then honor that and move back. Get pics of thier hands on the keyboard and thier faces, fingers on bridges etc, make it personal.

This has alot of potential. Thanks for the post.
cheers,

- Simon
