Early Morning Creek

Cedar Creek - Mount Tamborine.

Not a bad place to be stuck for a conference. Whilst the others were sleeping off their drunken debauchery from the night before, this dedicated forum member was in the middle of the creek at 6.00am, hopping across rocks and trying to keep everything dry. The forest here is very thick and it was still very dark. Kit lens at 30mm, 13 second exposure at f25.
Your comments would be very much appreciated.

Simon

Great shot, well exposed and framed. My only nitpick is what the $!#@% were you doing out of bed at 6 am. :D

Simon gorgeous image showing excellent exposure and oozing peace and tranquility. Love the reflective quality of the stream it really helps make this image. My only issue would be with the twig in the foreground, distracting and I bet you wish you had braved the stream and plucked that sucker out the way :) Maybe the cloning tool may be the 'plucker after'.

Thanks Peter - I suppose I'm a bit of a nut for early starts. Too many years as a shift worker I suppose. I knew it was going to be the best time to get the right lighting for a long exposure.

Marco - I certainly would have braved the stream had I noticed the twig in the first pace! I was jumping around quite a lot trying to get as many different shots as I could and I guessed I just missed it. I tried cloning it but couldn't get a result I was happy with. In the end I decided to leave it in.

Thanks Mark and Bob for your comments. :D

Getting up is one thing, finding the energy to walk down to the creek is another thing.... atleast with fishing, i can spend 2hrs sleeping on the deck if im not driving.. if iam driving, a good splash of saltwater and im good as cold

I'll get upto it in the next couple of weeks

Okay - I look forward to the results. Now all we need is some rain to get the creeks flowing nicely!

Silky smooth and bonus brownie points on the exposure. The water looks like molten metal.

Feel free to send some of that rain down our way Tim!

Thanks Wayne - molten metal is a pretty good description. I actually thought it looked a bit like chocolate. Mmmmm. :) I did get a few shots from on top of the fallen tree but none of me (too ugly). They were pretty flat though - I couldn't get the tripod stable enough to allow long, slow exposures so they just looked liked holiday snaps.

Thanks Steve. Early mornings certainly give great photographic opportunities, especially as winter approaches. I love the fact that the sun takes just that little bit longer to get up, giving an almost twilight quality to the overall lighting.

Apologies for taking so long to reply Simon - had a bit of hectic weekend :)

As for your shot - beautiful, serene and exposed like a pro !!!!! And you're right, it does look like chocolate :) ;) mmmm....... chocolate .....

oops, sorry, went off in a trance for a second ;)

Seriously - lovely shot, and one you should be proud of !!!! And it would be easy to clone that offending twig out of the shot if you felt like it.

Well done

Love the image Simon and especially with the molten metal look.
I've done a few of creeks at around .5 sec to 4 sec exposures to get the siilky water look but haven't been able to get the molten metal look.
I guess it's the long exposure time that gives it that look. Something new to try :)
Thanks for the inspiration.

Cheers
