Some nice shots there Dug.
Are you sure you cant show us some pics.... ![]() What setup did you use for the formal? I have contimplated doing this with the formal in town. Not sure if anyone does anything here but my wife is a teacher at the school so I may have an in there at some stage. MATT
A Simple 2 light setup main light off to the side fill light beside the camera
1/2 a stop difference between the lights white umbrellas to soften the flash. It has been a hell of a week for flashes 2 of mine are in for repair + one from the other guy I do the shooting with, So his spare crashes as well we organize to borrow one from a friend he drops it the day before the shoot We now have 2 main and 2 fill lights with no backups at all one fill light has no modeling light, 1/2 an hour into the shoot thing are just getting busy and a queue of parents and kids has formed all the lights go out we have blown the circuit breakers and they need to call an electrician to reset them!!!! We find a working power plug on the next floor and run extension leads from that. This takes about 15 minutes so we are well behind schedule. All goes well for the rest of the night I had a fire extinguisher on hand just incase the dodgy flash unit played up though! The Joys of being a photographer! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
Gee you have a tough life Dug. If you need a gaffer for your next school formal I'm definately your man

Is that 'cos you've made more than a few gaffes in your time, John? ![]() Terrific shots Doug - amazing what a difference a slight angle change can make and the colouring is just magnificent. Simon

A Gaffer? is that the person who puts the tape on to stop the "mammalian protuberances" from falling out of the gowns? If it is I'll be the gaffer you can take the photos ![]()
LOL Dug, nice wording.
I like the angles of the car shots. I know the feeling of having lighting go all to hell at an event, and I'm planning on buying up on spares in a big way this year to avoid it happening to me again. on a side note, generally magic tape works well enough, it's better than gaff tape - unless you've got yourself a model who prefers an amount of pain with removal of said gaff.
