Heath

That second shot in particular is great. I like the off cnetre composition and the great eye contact. I also like the warm autumn glow you've achieved in each of these too.

Heath,

These are really very good photos.
If you want devils advocate I would say that the hair in the firls face in #1 is a bit distracting and there is a little too much space on the right hand side in #3.

But that's looking for faults mate.

Cheers Rokstar. Thanks Marco.

I just noticed that the young boy in the second pic appears to have a tongue ring

Great photos Heath. The first is great, the second awesome. If I were to be picky, like Matt I would say there's a little too much space to the right of the third. I'd be very happy if I'd taken any of them.

While all of them are great, first is my favorite - well composed and captured

I love them. Wish my kids would be this natural. Everytime I get the camera out, my daughter runs in real close and I cant get a shot and my son make stupid faces. I guess it takes time...

Thanks for the kind comments all. For kids it has to be fun and relaxed. That is all there is to it.

I have found a few techniques when shooting kids, some of which have been mentioned already:

1. Make it fun, LOADS of fun.
2. Run around WITH the kids (where possible).
3. Let them occasionally see the images on the LCD - keep them involved.
4. During a shoot give them little breaks of 'no photo' time. Several short bursts of photos at a time.

5. Interaction is the main ingredient.

Beautiful images too Heath.

Wow, superb images - fantastic composition, fun looking models and everything on them is spot on IMO. The slightly off-centre composition in #3 doesn't work for me as much as #1 and #2.

What sort of lighting was used? Simply natural light?

Number 1 is my pic as best and number 3 is pretty cool as well.

Very classy shots of sometimes difficult subjects

Cheers
