Back in timeJust wondering if I can get some critique from the following two images. Both are of the same thing but using different filters. Which one works better. The original was actually quite boring. I personally like the second one better, but the first one is probably just as fitting because it has a ghostly feel.

To suit the title Geoff image #2 stands out. Even the burnt out windows indicates a back in time theme - love it

2 for me ....... the pix has an old look.....
Cheers ....bp....
Difference between a good street photographer and a great street photographer.... Removing objects that do not belong... happy for the comments, but .....Please DO NOT edit my image..... http://bigpix.smugmug.com Forever changing
Aha... now I know what you wanted that filter for...
#2 is definitely much better... It might also be worth playing around with the film type and ISO settings of Virtual Photographer to introduce a little more grain... Cheers, John

Definitely #2 Geoff - #1 is way too blue. Done using OptikVerv filters?
I'm also not a big fan of the frame Peter

yep. I really like the OptikVerv filters.. I have quite a few shots that look very ordinary, and it's probably only fitting to make such a historic place look historic ![]() As far as the frame.. yeh.. I think i've got a bad habbit of using it. When I post them all on my website once PP'd, i'll probably ditch the frame. Thanks for all the comments guys.. I new I liked #2 for a reason. Geoff - #2 for sure, the 'satin steel' effect (am I right here?) really doesn't suit the theme as already stated by Chris. I really do like the 2nd one - where are the rest of your images from the tour?

You know the funny thing is, I wasn't paying attention to the actual filter name, so it'll be fun trying to find the one I used when I do it again ![]() I've taken roughly 250 photo's from the quarantine station out of which the best ones were the rock carvings I think. I'll know for sure when I start PP'ing. It will take me a while over the next few days to do PP on most of them though, and then I need to get them on my site. I'll repost to this thread when available. Unfortunately, the first few shots with the flash didn't turn out at all.. I was using all the wrong settings and they just didn't work. Once I figured out what was wrong, it was smooth sailing. Geoff http://www.gleff.com

#2 is the better, more in keeping with the era of the q.s.
sTeve check out my image gallery @

# 2 has the better colour for the theme. As for the shot itself. Great. Beautifully composed.

Geoff,
The second works much better for me. The effect in the 1st image is overbearing for mine. I learnt at one of the PS forums at PIW that you can achieve the same effects (and achieve a much more subtle variation of the first image) by creating a new hue/saturation adjustment layer and clicking on the colorize button. Move the hue slider until you've got roughly what you want and then fine tune with the sturation slider. Andrew
For those interested, my gallery is finally uploaded to my website with the photos I took at the quarantine station.
