Early morning at Middle Brighton pier

G'day all,

Went for a play this morning down at the Middle Brighton pier... But chilly but the light made it all worthwhile... I remembered to take a thermos of coffee with me, so it was all good

I assume you guys that have gone from the D70 to the D2X have also noticed the surprising jump in the resolution of fine detail, it's surprising me as I wasn't expecting that much difference from 6 to 12Mp, but strewth, lovin' the new toy

Anyway, Still struggling to get over this bloody pier fetish... Please critique...

The bloody lights went off just when I was setting this one up, doh!

No bloody lights, grumble, grumble, whinge, whinge... A three (3) image pano using the 85/F1.8 (worked out to about 27Mp), the detail is stunning, you can read the text on the signs along the pier, wow! But the image is nearly 500Mb!!!). Check out the color in the clouds, magic stuff...

Great images especially #1 and #3, I love the pano the best I reckon.

My 2cents maybe clone out the people on the pier as well as the Log jutting out of the water in #3???

In my opionion ould look better with the bottom cropped about halfway between where it is now and the shed.

#2 does it for me - shame about the lights. I agree there is too much path in #1, but the image wouldn't work with a crop to reduce it. #3 is pretty damn good too. With my D70 -> D2x move t's not just the detail I notice, but the dynamic range.

That "pier group pressure" can be a powerful thing Andrew - watch it doesn't do your head in!

Love these images and it's great to see you're just as comfortable in the urban environment as you are in the wilderness. As it seems to do for most who succumb to its charms, your new kit is bringing out your best. Well done mate - big ones for the wall methinks!

Looks like you are having fun with the new toy.

I love the colours in the first, and really nice pano on that last one.

I won't say much about his new toy, he will get sick and bored of the 5D very sooooon and upgrade to the Canon 1DSMKII at the next bonus he receive.

Good work in this first shot Andrew, I wouldn't change a thing on it except maybe a revisit one day with a Nikon D3

I wouldn't make any changes to #1, leave as is

I like no. 2 the best, what a pitty about the lights though, would have made a great image all that much better.

You didnt happen to catch the sunset by any chance? There were huge rays of light shooting out from in between the clouds, looked awesome. Pitty i was driving home at the time and missed it.

Great shots, especially the first. Looks as though there is no vignetting with this lens on the FF. I am gobsmacked how different my shots are with this beaut camera than my old 20D.
