i think the theme and styling and tone is excellent

A half length with that sort of pose and umbrella in the shot tends to lead someone to believe the shot was framed quickly, it looks just chopped off

A setup shot like this would work better full length showing the umbrella
and if the umbrella was featured maybe align the tip of it to her feet
i can see why you choose this off balance composition to fill the frame a little
but it can be achieved in other ways like her tilting down or adding a chair so the model can rest one leg on it then hold the umbrella in the other hand, this will compact the pose and fill most of the frame
full length isn't easy as you really have to nail down the pose otherwise it just looks wrong

expression isn't as good as your last shot of the same girl, which i have to say was wonderful
but perhaps the expression fits in with your theme?

Cheers mate.

This particular theme was actually my mates idea however we have both been working on it. It was actually shot in a pool. In shit shot she is standing on a ladder (which you cant see) in the pool and it cuts off above her legs however you can see the majority of the umbrela. I decided that I didn't like the way the backdrop falls into the pool so I decided to cut it just above the backdrop and it didn't end up turning out too bad, I thought.

But yes the expression in this one isn't as powerful as her previous ones but I like it for this image nonetheless. This image, for me, is more about the styling and the textures in the clothes and backdrop.

Thanks alot again :)

hi vort

the ladder sounds fascinating,

the styling is great, reminds me of a backstage shot in the cinematic hollywood days 1940's+ it's a very nostalgic image of that time
and i must say i love the velvetine jacket

i didn't set this shot up it was styled for a fashion show, but the ladder in this contributes to the models pose

Wendell, I think you're too conservative (or modern?) there. I reckon a full-length shot would totally alter the image, take the focus off the face and put it on the wardrobe. I think the three dominating elements (face and both hands) perfectly rule the frame, and the glimpse of umbrella acts as an excuse to hold the arm that way. It could have been anything, but the umbrella works nicely. Arm and back-drop appear to draw attention to it, but I'm not sure that this was entirely intentional.

Just my humble opinion...

Cheers
Steffen.

Vort
I don't agree with Wedells comments in this case. I think the composition works very well for a 3/4 length portrait. It's just perfect! Brilliant work!

There's something very nice about this.

The lighting is excellent, especially your separation of the subject from the background. The way the sahdows fall onto the backgroundm too, is very well done.

The posing, and the pose, are very nice too, although I might (perhaps) like to see just a little more room at the top of the image, above the model's head.

Don't chop heads off rah rah, yeah I know :) I was playing with different crops and this looked alright. I'll leave it for now and come back to it in the morning and see if it still fits well.

Cheers

Annnd one more,

Yeah. I know. The hands cut off are horrible. That happened in camera, I didn't crop it like that during post processing. Apart from that I'm rather happy with the shot.
