I worry sometimes about you Matt, I really do. Seek help immediately.
And this is where I met the leprechaun - He told me to burn things
Hey Matt, do you get down to Newtown a lot? If so let's catch up for a newtown shoot - hey, if this takes off we could just have a meet in newtown one night (noodles at the happy chinese noodle place) - I'll post it in meeting ideas. Let me work out a date.

Very nice composition Matt... I guess that was one of the things you were aiming for...
However... I feel compelled to ask... Cat Steven's what is still alive? (Warning: Apostrophe Man is alive and well...) Cheers, John

This is an fine example of seeing a subject. Matt excels at this. Stuff that I might notice, but probably wouldn't even think to photograph. Matt takes the shot.
And not only do we have a good shot technically, but one which elicits responses and interest. Talk about making something out of very little. Inspirational Matt. And we get a punctuation discussion (has anybody read Eats, Roots and Leaves?) and a Cat Stevens discussion. Who cares about the Cat? I do. Love his work. ![]() Greg - - - - D200 etc

I like the photo, Matt. Well spotted.
Yeah, I'm a massive fan of Cat Stevens (have all albums) and he has been called Yusef Islam since 1978 when he converted and became a Muslim. For the first time in nearly 30 years there are strong rumours that he is going to make an album again with all profits going to humanitarian cause. Onya, Cat ![]() Cheers Michael
Good work John. ![]() Yes, the book is actually called "Eats, Shoots & Leaves: The Zero Tolerance Approach to Punctuation" by Lynne Truss. It is a great read too. Most enjoyable. Greg - - - - D200 etc

Wasn't Cat Stevens refused entry into the US of A because
of him being a suspect for his muslim way ? Anway is songs are great. Cheers, CD
Cat Stevens (Yusuf Islam)
Born in London to a Swedish mother and a Greek father on July 21 1947, Steven Demetre Georgiou became interested in music in his teens, began performing under the name Steve Adams in 1965, and eventually became known to the world as songwriter and singer Cat Stevens before converting to Islam and becoming Yusuf Islam in 1977. At the peak of his musical career in the 1970's, Cat Stevens had eight consecutive gold albums and 10 hit singles in the United Kingdom and 14 in the United States. His best-known albums include Tea for the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecats, Catch Bull at Four, and Buddah and the Chocolate Box. His most beloved songs include anthems such as "Peace Train," "Moon Shadow," "Morning has Broken," "Father and Son," and "Oh Very Young." Stevens retired from the music world soon after accepting the faith of Islam. He subsequently married, had five children, auctioned off his possessions, and founded a Muslim school in London. A vocal opponent of the war in Iraq, Yusuf Islam is on a U.S. government security watch list and is barred from entering the United States. His songs are still crap ![]() Oh he also called for the death of Salman Rushdie for writing "The Satanic Verses" Way to much photography gear is never enough!
Harry Chapin, Singer / Songwriter
Born: 7 December 1942 Birthplace: New York, New York Died: 16 July 1981 (automobile crash) Best Known As: Singer of the 1972 hit "Taxi" Chapin was a folk-rock troubadour of the baby boom generation. He was particularly known for his "story-songs"; his signature hit "Taxi" (1972) was the story of a disillusioned cabbie meeting an old lover, and "Cat's In the Cradle" (1974) the cautionary tale of an absentee father. Chapin also was a social activist for many causes, particularly world hunger. He died at age 38 in a traffic accident on New York's Long Island Expressway. Now there was a singer songrighter and life cut tragically short. Way to much photography gear is never enough!
MoonshadowAnd if I ever lose my mouth,
all my teeth North and South, and if I ever lose my mouth, I won't have to talk............ I love how this lyric is followed by a guitar riff instead of words (as is the case in the rest of the song). Long live the Cat. Sorry Dug I guess I'm showing my age! ![]() Don't get me wrong I think sadly the Cat lost the plot long ago. But his music will live on.
Must admit that I have been a fan of the Cat for years - proof, I have the following albums:
Back to Earth Buddha and the Chocolate Box Catch Bull at Four Foreigner Izitso Matthew & Son Mona Bone Jakon Numbers Saturnight Tea for the Tillerman Teaser and the Firecat New Masters Live ![]() ![]() Chris
-------------------------------- I started my life with nothing and I’ve still got most of it left
Teaser and the Firecat was the first record I ever bought (vinyl of course) but I'd have to say Catch Bull at Four is the favourite album of my whole music collection. Ruins, The House of Freezing Steel, The Boy with the Moon and Star on His Head. Does it get any better? Awesome. Apart from those two albums, I've only got Izitso, Back to Earth and a Greatest Hits Collection, though I have the music for all his songs and play them regularly on guitar.
I sadly doubt, if he ever returns to his music, that he could ever recreate the magic that we all still love. ![]() Simon

True, true. As a musician, I believe music (popular music at least) died in the mid 80s. "Music" nowadays is not really music, it is mass produced mindless noise, produced by talentless stooges for huge recording companies. Bring back Scott Joplin, Al Jolson and Louis Gottschalk. To clarify this point, Cat Stevens (aka Yusef Islam) gives millions of dollars he still receives in royalties to a charity he set up years ago in aid of those worse off, including muslim kids in poor countries. He also donates much money to other charities and it was thought that one of those charities aids terrorists (proven to be false later) and that's why he was refused entry to the U.S. My fave albums are Tea for the Tillerman, Teaser and the Firecat and Mona Bone Jakon ![]() Cheers Michael
Well, what about Slim Dusty? Chad Morgan? The great vocalists of our (70s) time, not to forget Ray "I-saw-elvis-in-a-ufo" Stevens, all contemporaries with the Cat himself.... ![]() ![]() ![]() President, A.A.A.A.A (Australian Association Against Acronym Abuse)
