Nude women at Oran Park!!!

Postby Raskill on Tue Aug 15, 2006 11:17 am

Okay, so I lied about the nudity bit.....

Spent the best part of Sunday at the final V8 round to be held at Oran Park. It was a great day, nice and warm and sunny. Caught up with good company also, Barry and Jeff. Trent must have saw me coming and ran away and hid in the crowd. :)

This was the first real chance to get the Sigma 'trackside' and I'm pretty happy with the results. I didn't get as many keepers as I would have liked, but this was more to do with my actual physical handling of the lens, rather than anything to do with the optics. It's a heavy b@stard and given I hand held it most of the day, my images towards the ends of the session were poorer from fatigue.

I need to learn how to pan using a mono-pod, so any hints will be greatly appreciated!

Anywhoo, enough talk, heres some of my pics:

Skaife and Richards duelling (they're not blown highlights, they're headlights :) )

Any comments or criticism welcome as always.

Thanks!

Lousy photos, crap exposures, shit composition

Note to self: never open photos by Raskill

Ok I'm over the disappointment now. Nice shots
You must have been pretty close to the action with the last one if you took it with a 24-70, sharp too.

Great shots Raskill!

I, along with about 30 other people, am going on a drive day at Oran Park in a few weeks time where I will get to drive a Lotus Elise. I am debating in my mind whether or not to take my camera to get a few action shots (I presume that not all attendees will be driving at the one time). However, I am concerned about security whilst I am in the Lotus.

The point of that is I can use your shots (and others posted on these forums) as inspiration to maybe get some good shots of my own.

(I just realised that this became a very ambiguous post :D )

Cheers

Great shots Raskill. What a fantastic weekend!

Patrick, take your camera along. You definitely won't be driving all the time - you'll be sharing the Lotus with a couple of other drivers. Don't let that put you off though - unless you're a seasoned long distance racing driver, you'll be glad for the breaks :) When you've finished with the Lotuses and want to drive a real race car, give me a call  Generally speaking, your group will be the only one at Oran Park, so it's safe leaving your gear just lying around. You can always ask one of the guys sharing your car to hang onto it if you're worried. PS. Watch out for Suttons - it bites!

Thanks Andrew - whilst I won't know everyone in the group, the day is being put on by an institution I work with. That said, depending on parking, etc, I can always leave the gear locked up in my car whilst I am missing apexes.

I attended a similar day at Eastern Creek a few years ago and we could take our own cars on the track (mind you, I didn't think my Daiwoo would really cut it), but I managed to drive a PRB Clubman which was a hoot.

You're welcome Patrick. If you're going on a weekday, odds are you'll have the track to yourselves and will be able to park smack bang outside the pits. If it's part of a race weekend - good luck, you may be walking a bit further.

Oh, and by the way, have fun - it's an awesome race track - so much fun when you get it right.

Andrew - it will be a weekday, and I assume it will be booked out for us.

I even thought of taking the camera in the Lotus with me (assuming I was a passenger of course).

If I do end up taking the camera, I will post some pics here (it's not until early September).

Cheers

Ras, matey looks like that nice new sigma lens is working for you like it should.Great stuff i was going to buy 1 of them before i got my Nikon 300m so i am glad to hear it is all good. The 24-70 seemed to be ok as well so i am thinking of getting a smaller lens sim to this as long as they are fast enough.
Cheers
