Myer

Shot the Myer spring summer collections show last night
it was dubbed the bigest fashion show event ever held in Australia
they were right it was an extravaganza Myer chucked everything they had at it to beat the David Jones effort.

Technically it was the most challenging show, up to 10+ models on the runway at any one time staggered format, crazy light shifts theatrical scene changeovers and it just kept on going on and on and on and on...

i shot mostly on the 28mm end to capture the scale

1st scene huge 747 fuselage rolls in, models walk out of it and negotiate their way down the runway
Image

hugo boss scene, model/dancers do a men in black routine, very cool
Image

beautiful ballerina scene at the end
Image

and the shot of the night
Jennifer Hawkins looking right at me, models here were wearing bronzing cream and my white balance was off
Image

i submitted a very similar one without the flare to the papers but someone beat me to it

I was just thinking your last shot was better than the one I saw at smh.com.au - certainly like it better than what they published.

Wow!

So any info on flash / shutter speed / aperture? I'm starting to get more interested in people shots (and I would love to go to the TAFE thing but my sister's b'day dinner).

Wendell,

These are fantastic shots. I especially like the Boss shot. Really gives a great sense of scale and the lighting is awesome.

hi

thanks alot i was lucky to get dead centre spot and to shoot with the 28-70 everyone else used the 70-200 they all got tight shots, the myer thing was all about scale and presentation rather than the fashion
would of been great to shoot at 12mm with the 12-24 to get the ambience of the lighting on the audience from either side

settings variable
shutter from 1/160 to 1/500
whitle balance from 2700K to 5600K depended on the light shifts
f stop constant at f4
ISO800 mostly

Mate...awesome work. Hard to find a bad shot. Love the BOSS one exactly for the same reason as the rokkstar said.

As an aside, when you submitted your shot to the paper was it going to be for free with credits, or for a fee?

Cheers

I think the third shot is fantastic - apart from the obvious quality of the photo itself, there is an additional element which makes it really stand out.

Well done

hi mike

the papers do pay standard rates for photos
no one submits for free in fear of other established photographers getting up at them for undercutting them

most serious press people have their laptops with them and submit key shots right after the show, i have to go home and edit so i miss the boat quite alot

perhaps you have the setting 'block images from this sever on'

right click on the image and select menu item and select 'unblock images from server'

John,

That is all that Wendell's images are. :)

Seriously, is it a big-ish space (such as where an image might appear), or just a small placeholder space? If you right click on the space where the image is, select "save link as", and then paste that into notepad, what does this say?

That may give us a clue as to what is happening.

Gary there is just a small space - enough for perhaps two rows of type. Where the first picture should be I can see , but only on the first. There is no little box or anything else in the space.

It happened with one of Wendells earlier fashion threads and in the end I just gave up. It doesn't take much but I truly am puzzled.

John,

Do you have perhaps image blocking set in your browser? I'm presuming that you can see other images, which means that the answer would be a no.

The URL for the first image is http://www.zeduce.org/images/fashion/Myer/big01.jpg if that helps at all.

I've not checked to see what IP that resolves to, but presuming that other images display ok, I'm thinking a call to your ISP's support line might be in order.

Oneputt,

You could try the following, if you have not already.

Verify in Edit,Preferences Content Tab that for the Originating web site only is not selected. Also, while in Prefences, select the Privacy tab, then select Cache, use the Clear Cache Now Button. Restart Firefox.

Good suggestion, although I suspect that these settings will be fine because he can already see other images, and most images here are not from the originating site. Add to that that this only seems to happen with Wendell's images, and that suggests a specific problem with the one site.

That said, the suggestion is cedrtainly worthwhile trying.

John, you might also like to simply copy the image's URL that I gave, and paste that into the address bar, and see if that lets you see the image.

Also, what happens (out of curiosity) if you log in using IE? Does anything behave differently?

Cheers ...

You certainly have nailed the lighting and the exposure on those. They are very professional and it's obvious that your skill level is soaring to a point where you should be deemed 'talented'. I suspect you are going to make a big name for yourself in this field. Go for it!

Hey Wendell..great work (as always!).

I keep meaning to ask you, as a newbie to the D200's Kelvin WB capability; how do you select your WB for a situation? Do you just eyeball it and guess or do you take test shots? I've found it to be quite handy so far but am yet to find a decent WB for fluoro lights (or my SB800 with the green gel) with either the standard method or K.

A bit :ot: I know, PM me if you prefer!

great shots.

on another note i'll make sure the wife keeps away from myer, i'm sure they will have to pay for that show somehow and i dont fancy seeing the bill. probably put make photography bill look tame.

Hi Liam

from experience i just eyeball it, so does most runway photographers
it's formulaic

there is a light test before the show and a little brief but usually thge lighting situation changes alot so yoiu just have to wing it

i think 2700Kelvin is very cool looking it can compensate for the warm look of tungsten lights

not sure what the daylight halogen spots are called but i use 5600K(warm) to compensate for them

and any kind of coloured gel lights you just flick back to 4000Kelvin and hope for the best

settign kelvins is great the auto white balance is hopeless and too slow
also if your batch procesing its good to have a consistent wb seting
or at least 2

These are excellent shots Wendell, (especially the last one) - as others have already said, improving all the time :)

Just out of interest, are you using a filter on the front of the 28-70?

Cheers
