Workshop Pt-1 B&Ws

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

I especially like the angle and b&w treatment in the first - really nice :)

The second captures a thoughtful moment, and again works well in b&w.

To me, the third is the least strong of these three - while still a nice picture, it doesn't seem as compelling as the other two.

Good work Yi-P, The light in the 2nd shot is really interesting - looks very natural. Like the 3rd shot next. The angle of the 1st doesn't seem right - I tried a couple on a similar angle and they don't look right to me either IMHO. Cheers, Mick :) :) :)

Yi-P,

I like number 2 here beacuse of the vacant stare and soft lighting. What a great lens!!

No 2 and 3 are good. Great facial expression in No.2, although I feel it could do with a bit more contrast.

Yi-P, as well as these great posts I went to your gallery and have to point at number 70 in your gallery of Jacinta - fantastic!

I'd also go for #73

I must agree with Justin on #73, for me it's probably one of the best of the meet.

73 is really great.

At first glance, it's all wrong, with the hand and bow partially obscuring the face.

Then you see the Jacinta's eye, between the shaft and the hair. Magic!

The chair should have been behind the model. It blocks the veiwers eye and the eye has to skirt around it. Otherwise not bad. Gary picked number 70 and I have to agree. A beautiful shot!

I must agree with this 'eye-skirting' issue from the chair. But then I think Gary or Dee put the chair this way so that she can have something to lean on and not to be sitting down on a dead-locked position facing the camera. I think, for the non-professional models, this way helps them to relax a bit in posing. Being the fact that she is surrounded by about 8 ambitious photographers and getting powerful flashes every 1.5 or 2 seconds. It must be hard and stressful to be on the other side of the lens I assume.
