Christmas Duck

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Christmas Duck

Christmas Duck

This is a shot of my Dad's Duck which I think he has his eye on for Christmas Day

I converted to B&W and then History Brushed his Beek, dropped the levels a bit then threw in a bit of Omni Light which really made her feathers come to life.

The only thing i'm not happy about is a bit of blur on the beek area.

Otherwise i'm happy, more happy than she will be around Chrissy time

Mic

Oh Mic - tell your dad that duck is really bad for your cholesterol levels, and he has to have vegetarian duck for Christmas (it's made out of tofu) and she can come and live with me :) And not for me to eat by the way - ducks make great pets, and great 'watch dogs' :)

Hugs ;)

Rel, I don't really want this to decline into an off-topic debate, after all, it is about an image of a duck, but...

While any animal fat contains its fair share of cholesterol, this doesn't have any direct bearing on our blood cholesterol levels. We, in fact, are not dependent on the intake of the stuff but make it ourselves. In this vein (no pun intended!), did you know that (pigs) lard is good at lowering the cholesterol level, simply because it consists to over 50% of mono-unsaturated fatty acids, which perform this miraculous feat? 8)

I guess it also depends to a degree on what we've evolved to eat. I know, for example, that my neanderthal/arian/viking metabolism is far less tolerant to carbohydrates than, say, that of many of my asian contemporaries. I just have to look at a bowl of white rice and put on a pound...

In short, ducks as we know them today, are meant for eating, especially around the festive season. And Mic's sample looks like a pretty good one...

Swap (invert :P) the colours between the red and the white,so it is a red duck with white around the eye, can be more like SANTA, and more Christmas-sy!

Some red wine mixed through the stuffing will give a great flavour. Great on a rotisserie :D

I too was under a similar impression that dietary cholesterol could only influence blood cholesterol levels by 10% or so... Some people just have bad cholesterol making genes...
