Re: setupthe key is having a lens that is wide enough to capture it all. I used a 20d with 10-22mm lens. Shot at iso 200, bulb mode, keep the shots to around 2sec. Being at a great vantage point also helps!
These ones are high quality. You had a great vantage point!

Well done mate, great shots, we strolled past from Blues Point to under the bridge yesterday between 1pm and 4ish, and I saw plenty of good vantage points if I was patient enough to wait it out. How long did you camp your position out ?
Re: locationI worked alone last night and only got there at 8.30pm. Being mobile it was a lot easier to move around the crowd and squeeze myself into a pretty good tight spot. It was pretty insane by around 9pm. The beauty about Blues Point is that it slopes downwards so you don't get any heads in front of you. A real important lesson that I learnt last year which I learnt from Circular quay last year. The venue houses 3000 people and it was relatively easy to leave after and also get a seat on the train!
Re: thanks allThank you all for your encouragement. If you haven't seen it live, I highly recommend you check it out. It's a totally different experience seeing it in persno when the big ones explodes and flies out and feels like it's gonna hit u. From a photography perspective it's really rewarding if you can pull off a few good shots to share with everyone.
These are far and away the best NYE shots I've seen from this year.
