Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Not sure which one I prefer.. I'm leaning towards the second image.

Nope! I prefer the first one because the colours are more vivid.

There's something creepy about the second, but the first is more filling.

I'm not sure, Paul. What's the reason for the shot?

I saw this telegraph pole at a set of traffic lights a few months ago and it has about 500 to a 1000 nails and screws in it from various posters/adverts and thought it would be a great picture.
So today I just so happened to be passing and went for it, unfortunatly I'm not happy with those shots, I then walked around the pole and voila I saw the serial number for the Hel$tra techs to identify it.
From there on it was just a matter of clicking a few frames off and a small amount of correction in NX.
I'll re visit it again later with the tripod to get the nail/screw shot.

for me both shots fall down with the inclusion of the back ground as you are drawn away from the main subject so I would have preferred just the pole with numbers and nails
to get this you would have to reposition more to the right, but then you would lose the nice angle...not going to be easy to make me happy :)

i think its a good phoot because of the tonal range the yellowworks with all the other complimentary colours and the dof is thoughtfully considered

it also has an unusual darkness to it probably by using faster shutterspeeds
so i like the mood

2nd one is slightly more interesting because it has more relational depth showing lampost against sky, even though the first one obviously jumps out cos the dof

The first one really jumps out at you with the detail and vividness of the digits.

I can't say I'm in love with the 2nd one but it is quite interesting with the tones and contrast between the detail of the lamp post and digits which conflicts with the smooth OOF background.
