Went to the Mt Coot-tha Botanic Gardens the other day for lunch, and besides the ever present duck population there’s quite a large colony of Eastern Water Dragons (Physignathus lesueurii)

Here are the photos, hope you enjoy...

Nice and sharp, good eye contact and the colours are pleasing too.

I prefer the shots where he isn't partially obscured by the foliage.

Welcome to the forum, bugeyes.

Man, is that a great series of Water Dragon shots from Mt-Coot-tha! They are well composed, sharp and a good use of saturation. I'm often in the gardens photographing these dragons and the birds and it's great to see such beautiful shots.

Well done :D

Cheers

Thank you all for the very warm welcome and kind words. This particular dragon was very cooperative, and a wonderfully coloured example of the species. He let me approach to about 2 meters and sat perfectly still while I rattled of a dozen or more shots, until he spotted a beetle amongst the leaf litter... mmm lunch!

Some of you have inquired as to what gear I'm using, well technically I'm not using a DSRL but it suits my need quite well, it's a panasonic fz50 and has a f2.8-3.7 35-420mm EQV zoom lens.... I hope there's not too many hardware snobs out there, and you judge me on my work and not my equipment.

One again, thank you all for the kind comments and warm welcome…
Regards, Mike.

Mike - certainly an indication of the photographer and not the equipment

Very good pictures

Postby zafra52 on Sat Mar 24, 2007 3:32 pm

Mike, your pictures are superb. Your first and and last posting are the best because there are not too many distracting elements in them and therefore your eyes focus on the main subject. I believe the important thing here is what you can do with the equipment and not the gear you use. Please keep producing pictures like these - whatever the camera or lens you choose to use.
Anyway, I just read the specification of your camera and it is certainly an impressive instrument. The reason why some of us are curious about the equipment used is to learn about the equipment and the techniques - well at least that is my reason.
