Standalone SaluteI'm in two minds about this pic. I did clone out the lights but then it just looked too black. Wasn't balanced.

love thje shadowes on the floor really draws the eye
and great use of negative space shame though about the flag pole but i guess it gives the image a contextual reference
I really like this image! I agree that the lights should stay they do not take anything away from the image by being there.
The only thing I would have liked to see (well ok for different renditions of the same image as I think this one has the strength to really stand on it's own) is to see a flag fluttering on the flag pole and a little more separation between the sailors elbow and the pole. Well done!
Piro I really like the mood of this shot. It could be said that you need to crop the right hand side a bit but I find it really helps to isolate the sailor.
Morning gentlemen.
Agreed that the elbow and flag pole seperation could have been a bit better. If I could, I would have tried to re-position myself that evening but it was quite crowded so it was either take the shot with what I had, or don't take it. I was tempted to make it a square crop, but didn't because of the shadows on the ground as has been suggested ![]() Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone

another good use of negitive space...... the lights give the shot some depth rather than just black, well captured......
Cheers ....bp....
Difference between a good street photographer and a great street photographer.... Removing objects that do not belong... happy for the comments, but .....Please DO NOT edit my image..... http://bigpix.smugmug.com Forever changing
Good photo. I like the colour-tone and contrast.
It's a poor salute though. Keep your head straight boy and move your hand to meet your brow, not your head to meet your hand. He needs some practise. ![]() Steve.

Sorry Kris but I have to disagree with you there. I think if the flag was included in it, it would have presented another stronger element to compete with the sailor and thrown out the composition of the final piece.
Also they didn't have the flag on that post ![]() ![]() Hassy, Leica, Nikon, iPhone
