Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

At 2:42 pm today (05/06/07), my beautiful wife brought our new son, Alexander Anwandter into this world.

Whilst fatherhood hasn't quite hit me yet, I still find the strength of my wife overwhelming. Labor (or labour?) was about 12 hours and all she required was some NOS and a lot of strength and determination, which she had in bucket loads.

Alex weighed in at 3.46kg (7.3 lbs for the oldies) and measured in at 50cm (or 500mm for the tradies).

A big kudos to:

1. Alicia.
2. The midwife at North Shore Private (Margi - spelling may be off). She could coach the Warratahs to a win!
3. The obstetritian.
4. Mothers in general for what they have to go through and what we, as men, will never understand.

Here are some pics (taken with available light which was coming in from the window and required high ISO and wide aperture).

This time, I won't accept any criticism, but I am sure you will understand why

Oh, and top marks to Craig (Alpha7) for guessing my ambiguous clue in another thread.

Image

(The first one was taken with 50 1.8 at 1.8 whilst holding Alex and trying to point the lens in his general direction).

And, the view from our room, which I thought made a pretty cool architectural shot, ignoring the reflection and dirt on the window. Click here for a larger view.

Phillip, I didn't think to take the laptop, HDD and internet connection to the hospital this morning!

Besides, I had to get home, have a beer, download my photos, have a beer, upload photos to flickr and have a beer!

Glen, not sure exactly what you mean, but the family name goes back about 500 years from Germany to Chile to Australia. We did own a brewery in Chile which, unfortunately, sank following the '65 (or so) earthquake which was beyond 10 on the richter scale and subsequently launched a tsunami to Hawaii!

Anyway, a new story started today, and don't be surprised to see the name in Wisden in about 21 years (not that I am going to push Alex into cricket or anything  )

Lots of congratulations to your wife and you :D

This is a new chapter in your lives and even after my "little treasure" now being 25 and getting close to 26 years old I still remember the days she would just fit on my upper leg and how I took her to Kindergarten.
Take lots of photos.
Time will pass much quicker than you would believe.

Thanks guys - I still keep tearing up intermittantly!

Yip - say goodbye to lens lust? Don't you think an 85 1.4 would be the perfect lens for newborn photos??

Wayne - I am sure there will be thousands more to come!

Christian - you are very correct - it has already been about 8 hours!

You know, this has happened billions of times before around the world, but your own always seems like the only one! :D

Alicia, Patrick congratulations on the great news
take as many photos of Alex as you can now, as if he is like my first son he will rebel and pull stupid faces every time you point a camera at him (then you will have to get a very long lens and be very sneaky to get a shot)

enjoy... everything about him

Thanks everyone - we are all looking forward to the 'new' life for the three of us.

Trevor, you may want to look in:

Test hat-tricks
Double century on debut
Double century in both innings of a test match
10 wickets in an match
5 wickets in an innings (x2)
Highest score carrying the bat.

I am sure there will be others, but I don't want to seem pushy :D
