Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent. Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature. Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread. Portrait pp
Blazing away at a kids birthday party a couple of weekends back and got this shot of the partner in crime that I quite liked.
Thought I'd use it to give Lightroom more of a workout than I had so far. I like the result, but there are a few flaws due to my hate affair with Photoshop's lasso tool. Is there a better way to separate an object from the rest of the image? I'm open to any suggestions. Anyhow, here is the result so far. C & c welcome

You've done very well transforming and ordinary snapshot into something else...
Have you tried Capture NX? I recently downloaded and installed the program and upon reading its instructions it seems to offer a few features that are alternatives to lasso tools of PS that supposedly make it more user friendly. IIRC 30 day trial are available from Nikon's site.
Well you've done well, I don't think I'd of even seen the shot to try it let alone had the patience to do all the PP to form the final result.

I have been using Nikon Capture for pp'ing raw files and am just starting to look more deeply into Lightroom. I like Lightroom's interface for manipulating curves, I seem to be able to get better results far easier than with NC or PS. I'll have a look at Capture NX, Onyx. Can never have too many tools, can we?

Wow - you have really improved the shot. I would take more time to improve the left side of the image - there are a couple of spots of her that are blurry and her earring is blurred out too. I know it must have taken ages to do this. Well done!
