Great shot of the cat, the goldie wouldn't stand a chance

I would be tempted to crop out the OOF left part of the cat photo. You have some great detail in the rest of the image and for me, the OOF section takes a bit away from it.

Cheers,

André

I like the crop of the cat, but I find the out of focus highlights distracting.
I think this would be a good play image by trying to darken off the OOF highlights but keep the wiskers as they are. I think this would add to the effect of eyes drawn into the cats eye.
Id play like that for a bit before trying to crop if it didnt work.

Thanks for the tips guys! much appreciated. I see what you mean about the OOF highlights.

I'll have another play and see if I can get it looking better.

Not too keen on the dog, but the cat shot is great - don't play too much with it, perhaps burn a little on the whisker to make it darker and less distracting. I think the OOF area provides a nice balance to the picture.
Once you have it how you like it, make sure it gets printed up nice and big!

I'm with the others. #2 is wonderful but I'd crop a small amount from the left to reduce the amount of OOF image.

Great shot of the cat :) Cool how much you can see in the reflection of the eye..

I'd also crop some from the left though.

Thanks for all your comments again. I've played a bit and come up with an almost square crop, with the whiskers burned a bit.

Is it too dark? I kinda like the darker look but not 100% decided..... I'd love to hear your thoughts:

I like the crop, but think you may have gone a touch too dark for my liking.

Great photo btw though.

I also think I like the crop, but at least on my monitor it is very dark. :)

Yes the crop is spot on but now it's too dark.

I will differ (meaning everyone else is wrong) and say the 1st amended version (the cropped but dark version) is spot on. Cats stalk and are therefore generally stealthy (is that a word). The dark fur (with still a lot of detail) and dark green eye, showing a reflection of what the cat sees, gives it a steely, predatory feel to it.

My only qualm is that it is a cat!

Thanks Patrick. To an extent I agree - although it also depends on which monitor I look at it.

I think when it's a full size pic it looks better dark, but in the 800 resize it looks better light....

Guess I'll just have to get them both printed and see
