Panorama in the rain

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Panorama in the rain

As I had got up early (4am) to do my first proper panorama for my local photo club competition, I wasn't going to let a lot of rain and wind stop me
I have this printed and matted to about a meter wide (just looking for a suitable frame)

needs to be looked at in a larger version here

I had made a pano bracket for taking portrait orientation shots but I had too much trouble getting the camera level in the dark on my ball head so this is a 5 shot hand held pano taken with the camera horizontal

You must be happy with that printed. You may find it's not that expensive to get a custom frame made.

Keith,

that is a very nice pano. The ocean baths, the dark stormy sky really suit the format. It looks very nicely put together, even with the movement of the waves.

Did you have to do much work in post processing in terms of the movement in the waves?

I am interested in that also, I have had trouble even with the split between two images with a tiny 2ft wave - nonetheless this is a very nice image - my hat goes off to you for getting up at 4am and having the commitment to get from Baulkham hills to marouba! :shock:

Well done on the handheld front also, the horizon looks spot on!

thanks for all the positive comments
I had to do a little editing on the 2 left joins (luck got the waves timed perfect on the 2 on the right)
I just used a soft clone to blend the waves up through the middle of the pool and use the rain to fix the horizon above there
the sea horizon above the rocks on the left had a bad match so I just clone some of the crashing waves over it to completely hide the level sea. :)
there was also a little cloning on the rocks at the bottom to make the join lines less obvious

the shots were ISO100 f4 22mm 1/4sec so the sharpness is due to part luck and slow breathing :)
