after seeing tangcla's photos on here and other forums i wanted to give it a shot, to paint light over a car using a softbox. i picked up a 60cmx40cm double diffuser softbox off ebay for $40, off ebay i also got an 80 L.E.D. camping light for $15 here are the result from my first attempt at painting light. (they are cropped a fair bit as i got the face of the softbox in a few of the photos, i will practise my technique more)

i think the shots in the OP could do with a bit of brightening up. the last shot though suits the dark, subdued mood. looks fantastic. well done.

The LED lights are giving you a blue light which is might be ok on a blue car but will cause colour cast on other colours...

Good work but to me they all seem under exposed, especially the last.
Cheers Adam

hey i went out again last night for some more trial shots using the lightbox, i let a bit more light into the camera, and adjsuted the white balance setting on the camera using a custom setting to suit the led light. all was going well and i was making some progress, then my battery went flat i forgot all about charging it so i only got 6 photos done and no where near to progress i wanted. but here is my picture from tonight straight off the camera. i will see if i can improve it in lightbox and photoshop, but i am fairly happy with it. i also got video footage to show people how i did it, everyone on other forums is interested in how to take these photos so i will show them, althought the video is being a pain to upload so that may have to wait.

cheers, it is a working progress. just wished my battery didnt go flat so i could of tried out a few more things. the light was advertised as a UFO camping light 60led (i think i wrote it had 80 led's i was wrong) here is a picture of it in the lightbox lol the way ive stuck it in ive blocked off a few leds but it doesnt really effect it (the latest one i was packing up and i realised i only had the light on the setting of 40leds, one more click to what i thought was off and it bumped up to 60leds and got brighter. so i cant wait to go out again as there is more i can improve on. this is only one style of photos, at the moment this one is really fun to do and it great to see how they turn out once i get home and put them on the computer. i still want to put some focus into other sorts of lighting set ups and daytime photos.

The most recent image works quite well imo, I think the key, for me anyway, is the background, the background in this picture really adds to the subject. I would be interested in seeing the final PP'd version.

Definately showing improvement. That last image is really good. Have you had a problem with footprints showing up in any of your images yet, or are you far away enough to not have that problem?
