IronFest 2009 Jousting

IronFest 2009! what a day, first time IronFest visitor and man do Lithgow turn it on, it was absolutely bloody freezing...

Took lots of pictures, the following ones are from my manual focus 100-300 and that was hard work...it was soo cold my hands were shaking so much hence half my shots were trashed! let alone trying to keep up with those rather fast four legged thingys..

Anyways.. there were plenty of other photographers there so i expect there will be other images posted soon

I is a great photo op. I missed this year because of family commitments, but have been several times in the past. I even did a knife making workshop one year which was absolutely brilliant

Given the conditions, your photos are quite brilliant. Much better than any I have taken. Looking forward to seeing more.

yeah this event is something else , I did not have a huge amount of time to take pictures whilst there but i could have easily spent the whole 2 days taking pictures.

You know they do it deliberately

yeah - and your neck of the woods was just as bad, if not worse on the sunday!

Given the conditions, your photos are quite brilliant. Much better than any I have taken. Looking forward to seeing more.

yeah I actually thought of that, but given the era is well before photography i thought someone might have a crack at that However I will definitely go back and have a look at how a BW conversion looks

Dispose of that bloody manual focus lens. Those images are so sharp my eyeballs are bleeding

#3 here is fantastic - not only do we have the snapped off end of the jousting pole, but we can even see bits of debris in the air.

The images have been progressively sharped down to the 800 size, however the originals are quite sharp, I am still very surprised with this lens, for somethign that cost me less than a carton of local beer on ebay it has seen alot of time on my camera. I really love the challenge of the older lens, especially getting the focus right...

I got several nice images of the actual clash of the jouster's (is that a word?) after figuring that its much easier to pre-focus on the centre of the expected clash point and bash out a couple of frames, a technique that I had going fairly well towards the end of the jousting round. I was definitely hoping for the splitting lances, but could only confirm once back at the computer...

standby cameron, when i get a spare moment I will look through the rest and see what i can find....

but I have to say there are some cracker images from previous years floating around this forum!
