Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Hey guys, Just wanted to share some pics from my first experience with lightpainting (at Tunks Park with a whole bunch of other members). These are all essentially straight out of camera (other than resizing). A bit low key...but I do like the reflections (D300)  From the D60  From the D300  From the D300  The white bars have to go...but we didnt figure out how to avoid them but still light up the far side of the car. Anyone have any ideas? BTW all of these were done by shining the Wolf Eyes Defender 260 through a softbox from about 4-7m. Was good to catch up again! Interesting last photo!  I have no idea how to get rid of the softbox flare...have lights VERY high up? Maybe a 8 foot boom arm with three of those torches... ?

nice photos of the car itself,
unsure why you got those softbox lines, you didnt walk around to the opposite side of the car did you?
you should only have to lightup the side of the car you are taking the photos from.

We did walk around to the opposite side of the car....to light up that bonnet better...we figured we could deal with it in post...but after having had a few goes...it may not be so easy. We are precisely sure of why these lines appear in the images, and yes, it's because the softbox was also placed on the other side of the vehicle. And no, it's not a case that one should only light up the side of the car from which you are taking the photos from. Often, when making images, the use of light involves quite a bit more than what just seems to be the obvious. The addition of light from other angles can often help to enhance the image. The question being asked by Cameron and Surenj was not one of how these lines were created, but one of how to still keep the backlighting in place, but obscure the light source. A boom - which we didn't have on the night - might have helped. g.

spot on there Gary! Next time we will have to get and bring a boom to see if we can get both the benefits of the extra light without that white stripe

Its interesting to see the different red colour variations between pictures, the 3rd image seems to be more appealing to me, I think cloning out that stripe would leave the car fairly nicely lit! top stuff cam..

Cameron, the third edited one defines that car's shape quite well. The dark on is not strong enough on it's own. WHY didn't we think about doing a portrait of the owner with his car! The dark look would have been quite cool as the background!!!!

Thanks Surenj...I still really like the dark one...just have not worked out how to make this image work for me....I'll have to have a bit of a play around to see if I can make anything of it....*checks temperature - Cameron does not post process heavily*

Nice work !!! I like the 2nd and 3rd the most. The 2nd has a really nice red and the 3rd has the right angle of view.  "Old school" (Olympus OM 1&2SP )
