Tomatos... the bugs didn't get these ones!

Got a thin skin? Then look elsewhere. Post a link to an image that you've made, and invite others to offer their critiques. Honesty is encouraged, but please be positive in your constructive criticism. Flaming and just plain nastiness will not be tolerated. Please note that this is not an area for you to showcase your images, nor is this a place for you to show-off where you have been. This is an area for you to post images so that you may share with us a technique that you have mastered, or are trying to master. Typically, no more than about four images should be posted in any one post or thread, and the maximum size of any side of any image should not exceed 950 px.

Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Please also ensure that you have a meaningful location included in your profile. Please refer to the FAQ for details of what "meaningful" is.

Comments and critiques very much welcome. Taken with a 50mm 1.8 at 3.2 or something like that. Anyone guess as to the lighting setup?

By the way, anyone know a surefire way to stop bugs eating tomatos? I have tried insecticide but it didn't work!

window lighting? with a white board reflector?
I think you should use a smaller aperture to great a better dof
but iam not really sure how to rid you bug problem though

Copper Sulphate. Also known as Tomato Dust. The bugs hate that stuff but make sure you wash your tomatos thouroughly before eating.

I like it... could have been scanned from the pages of a cookery book...

Not sure of the scale - are they cherry tomatoes or full sized?

Can you tell us how you took the shot?

Try collective growing... you grow it with something bugs hate...
A good one is Basil.

Please tell us what the ligting techniques was as this is a great stock photo!

Interesting photo composition, Owen. The contrast of the red, surrounded with all white and the one green spot, is pretty clever. :D

Hey folk, thanks for the comments.

MHD, I actually have basil growin about 50cms from the tomato plants... would it work better if it were closer? At the moment I have a tomato that the bugs got into lying on the ground near the others, and they seem distracted so far! hehe.

The lighting for this shot was like redline said. On a table beside a glass sliding door. The bowl thingo was put onto two pieces of white A4 paper. I spot-exposed for the tomato at the rear (The focus was slightly off that) which then over exposed the paper and got rid of the line where they overlapped.

The idea was actually from a guy from the photo club, saw his pic and thought it was great... this is just a different arrangement of his idea.

Next in line too shoot is a pear and then a cappucino with some coffee beans.
