Poles Apart.
This is something I've been wanting to do for a while! Every power pole is dfferent, in terms of what is attatched to them, and the texture of the wood (I like the weathered looking ones!)
So here are the first 2 of a collection I hope to build on. Weird?? Yes probably!  _
I still haven't attempted to photoshop these, but you'll be happy to know I have purchased a book "Photoshop for Dummies", which I'm sure will make interesting bedtime reading...... These were taken with the 70-300G from across the other side of the road....just wait til I eventually get a macro. Sorry for the small size, I'm trying to conserve free web space!
A very interesting idea for a collection. I don't believe our power poles are that weathered here. Then again, I never looked that close.
Excellent detail in your shots, but they do seem a little over exposed to me, might just be me. Can't wait to see what you can do with a macro lens on these old poles. Keep them coming.

They look good, I like the Left 1 with the bullit holes as well. Looks like you are going to be a very busy girl, how many Poles are in Australia
Love the texture of the poles. The second photo looks a bit blurred though or it could be my eyes
Don't forget icy poles are poles too
Stormygirl, there's a museum in Sydney that might interest you. It's got 'artistic' power poles out hte front. Next time i pass-by i will photograph it for you. But that could be a long wait though.

great shots stormy.... and not a strange thing to build a series of.
I take shots of locks for my series collection... http://www.markcrossphotography.com - A camera, glass, and some light.
Interesting hobby and very nice shots (needs a touch of contrast) - but would suggest Stormygirl you do not shoot your subjects

Liek the others I like the old weathered wood... Nothing strange there, I like old fence posts and old road signs with bullett holes, makes me think of Australiana... Hmmm, maybe we're just both strange

Once I get organised and learn all the ins and outs of Photoshop, I'll be able to play around with the images a bit more. I actually also have in mind to do a collection of dead trees (morbid?). I think they look brilliant in B&W standing all alone in a feild of dry grass....but that's another story!
Hi Stormy, Yeah the bullet hole one gets my vote too.
Play around in PS using brightness/contrast tool and shadow/highlight tool. You'll find these in under Image - adjustments. The shadow/highlight tool is brilliant (although probably not applicable to these shots). Great concept! I know nutzinc
Thanx Geoff! I haven't used the VR, but I'm quite pleased with what the G can do (at my stage of inexperience!) I just find it a little heavy at times, and worse to keep still when it's windy and crappy tripod is not in use!
