Forum rules
Please note that image critiquing is a matter of give and take: if you post images for critique, and you then expect to receive criticism, then it is also reasonable, fair and appropriate that, in return, you post your critique of the images of other members here as a matter of courtesy. So please do offer your critique of the images of others; your opinion is important, and will help everyone here enjoy their visit to far greater extent.

Also please note that, unless you state something to the contrary, other members might attempt to repost your image with their own post processing applied. We see this as an acceptable form of critique, but should you prefer that others not modify your work, this is perfectly ok, and you should state this, either within your post, or within your signature.

Images posted here should conform with the general forum guidelines. Image sizes should not exceed 950 pixels along the largest side (height or width) and typically no more than four images per post or thread.

Round #2 from the High Country

Postby mudder on Tue Feb 21, 2006 4:55 pm

G'day again,

Just popped in to post a couple more from the week-end up at the High Country... Yet to start on the few pano's I took...

Working out where I might go and play tonight, might be in for a nice sunset...

Let me know what you think, suggestions very happily accepted... :)

Cheers,

Setting the scene...

Just after sunrise at the summit...
EXIF: D70, F16, ISO200, Nikkor 12-24@12mm, man exp 1/40th, RAW, matrix metering, single exposure
This one I hadn't finished, I was going to burn in the distracting grasses on the right...

Another sunset shot from the summit, probably not a very good image but it was breathtaking taking it in at the time...
EXIF: D70, F13, ISO200, Nikkor12-24@12mm, man exp 1/15th, RAW, matrix metering, two exposures blended

And that standard shot every one takes...
EXIF: D70, F13, ISO200, Nikkor12-24@18mm, man exp 1/15th, RAW, matrix metering, single exp image

Absolutely gorgeous images. The last one being the quintescential (sp?) image of the high country, just missing some wild horses :)

It is certainly some inspirational stuff. Looks like you had a very successful trip.

All of them are fantastic!

In the first one, the tent looks almost alien, yet vaguely incan/mayan/aztec as well.

In the second one, the colours are great - maybe just not as sharp?

In the sunset one, I like the way the foreground mountains are *just* visible, as opposed to just being a dark foreground or silhouette. Soooo nice. Can't decide whether there'd be a warm breeze blowing to match the warm colours, or whether you were cold taking this shot.

Re : the final one. Maybe it's a standard shot everyone attempts, but I don't think I've seen very many that well achieved.

G'day,

The object in the first one is the lookout tower at the summit of the mountain, assumedly used for keeping an eye on people snowing in Winter and fire watch in Summer?

It was quite mild during the sunset, it was very comfy with my thermos of coffee and barbequed chook from the local supermarket :) , didn't wander down the hill until about 9'ish and was wearing a t-shirt and a thin vest thing...
