Beautifully crafted image Barrie. You have used the glorious afternoon/morning light to great effect with the whole scene punctuated with the terrific cloud formations. The whole scene sits well together.

Ahh.. wide angle

I just mentioned it in another thread, but this is my favourite photo-taking time... though perhaps a bit later than the other thread. This one is that magic 15 minutes every day - normally the 15 minutes when I am anywhere but somewhere where my camera is

Nicely done!! Beautifully timed too, the colours and reflections are perfect. I might have exposed the sky a bit darker, but otherwise it is all good!!

Great clouds on this evening - Below is a shot of a palm tree that was near the dock

I wasn't a big fan of the first shot, but the palm tree is superb. Great contrast in colour and tone between the orange/brown rough tree and the blue/grey fluffy clouds. Strong composition too.

my Sony, Barrie. A couple of reasons the first image doesn't quite work for me

I find the distortion a bit distracting because it draws my eye very strongly to the rock wall and path in the lower right foreground, but the interest in the pic is elsewhere. This could be fixed by a pano crop just below the base of the bollard on the LHS

The whole image has a blue cast - the sky is too blue as are the presumably white hulls of the boat - I'd dial down the blue a touch, maybe even push the red slightly to warm the whole image. This would in turn give a nice sunset glow to the whole image. EDIT: I'd also reduce the saturation slightly.

Barrie, I'd echo Peter's thoughts on your first shot, especially retifying the colour cast which is making for a fairly dull exposure. Whilst it would be worthwhile to play around with the composition with some cropping as Peter has suggested, my feeling is that the scene as a whole lacks any real focal interest... I'm really not sure what the subject or point of the picture is... just a snap of a location to me.

Bottom line for me is that you can do and have done better work IMHO.

That's better Barrie, although it now seems to have a slight yellow cast (too much blue reduction?)

Here's my take. Hope you don't mind. It's quick & dirty using Fireworks (no Photoshop @ work) and a touch too pink.

Barrie, forgot to mention - I think the second version by you is a marked imrpovement - especially the recrop.
