300 f/2.8 Macros

Finch and I ran our Brissie Wildlife workshop last weekend and I loaned my Sigma 180 Macro to one of the participants. Good opportunity to experiment so out with the Nikkor 300 f/2.8 and Triplus extension tubes :D

Probably the most expensive macro I've seen :D

Great photos, especially the frog,

Hi Mark

Great shots using a non-conventional "macro" lens but they sure do work.

It was a fun day, participant's learned heaps and some great photos were achieved by all.

Excellent stuff!

Cheers

Great results with your unconventional macro lens Slider. I've used my 180mm f/2.8 with extension rings before, and been pleased with the result. Sure, the DOF isn't very large, but the greater working distance is very useful for subjects such as butterflies, which can sometimes be hard to get close enough to, without causing them to fly off, with conventional macro lenses of relatively short FL.

Gordon, I normally use a Sigma 180 f/3.5 Macro which I love due to the greater working distance but this was ridiculous.

Here is a shot of the workshop group and I was behind them to get the frog and lizard with the 300 f/2.8 :D

don't you like Slider's photo
everyone is so very serious about taking THEE photo of the frog or lizard. (voyeurs should I add ? )
I think that photo is very illustrating and funny.
